Midnight Mining Deal Hit by Green Groups – Palawan activists get national and international support

Manila – Green groups accused the DENR of fast-tracking a mining contract in Palawan, calling the agreement a “midnight deal that is insulting and a threat to ecological balance not only in Palawan but in the whole Philippines.”  Alyansa Tigil Mina (ATM) stated that they have reliable information that a mining contract has been approved by DENR, without the necessary consultations and failing to secure consent from affected communities.

Forum on the ADB

A forum on the project, entitled, “Strengthening Social Accountability Mechanisms for Food Security and Agricultural Development,” was held last 18 May 2010 at the Discovery Suites, Makati, wherein the Philippine Partnership for the Development of Human Resources in Rural Areas (PhilDHRRA) presented the study findings on the Asian Development Bank’s (ADB) public expenditure process on the agriculture sector.

Philippines’ Farmers for Food (PhilFF) Project

As a continuing endeavor to strengthen the capacities of sugar and corn farmers, the Philippine Partnership for the Development of Human Resources in Rural Areas (PhilDHRRA) has just partnered with the National Confederation of Cooperatives (NATCCO) in implementing a project, entitled, “Philippines’ Farmers for Food (PhilFF).”  The PhilFF project is a capacity building initiative for the members of four networks/federations of farmers, namely, National Confederation of Cooperatives (NATCCO), Federation of Free Farmers (FFF), Pambansang Kilusan ng mga Samahang Magsasak
